- Know ahead of time what you would like to accomplish.
- Consult a printer at the beginning of a project to save time, money and frustration.
- The larger the print run the cheaper each piece is. If you have to do a second print run because you run out of copies it will cost you significantly more.
- When your budget cannot afford printing in 4-color, print in 2-color and use many shades of those 2 colors to give the illusion that you have used more color.
- Start with the best photographs available. A scanned image reflects the quality of the original. Photos can be retouched but that adds cost to your job.
- Always see a proof before running your print job. The colors you see on your monitor do not reflect the colors of a print.
- Use the finest, heaviest-weight papers you can afford. Ask your printer for recommendations within your budget.
- Images from the web are low resolution and produce poor results in print.
- Have everything organized and well documented before you bring it to the printer. Clearly written instructions will protect you from being charged for mistakes made by the printer.
- Review your prepress proofs very carefully for any mistakes. Spending extra time checking for errors before printing can save you the cost of having to reprint a job.
